RBI, IFSCA & other
RBI's overnight VRRR auction undershoots again; a larger 3-day round now notified for Friday. Thursday's overnight Variable Rate Reverse Repo auction under the LAF, notified at ₹2,00,000 crore, drew bids of only ₹1,42,622 crore, all accepted at a 5.24% cut-off and weighted average rate, for reversal on 28 August. RBI has since notified a 3-day VRRR auction for 28 August sized at ₹3,00,000 crore, for reversal on 31 August — a step-up in the offered quantum as the central bank continues to work through system liquidity ahead of the weekend. Korea — BoK: The Monetary Policy Board raised the base rate by 25bp to 3.00%, a second consecutive hike after July's move, in a 6-1 vote with one member dissenting in favour of a hold. The Board said the domestic economy "continued to grow faster than expected, supported by strong exports and a recovery in domestic demand," while inflation "is projected to stay above the target level for a considerable period," and that it will decide the timing and pace of any further increases while reviewing inflation, growth and financial-stability trends. Malaysia: Bank Negara Malaysia announced administrative monetary penalties on Setel Ventures (RM637,500) and on Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia and Standard Chartered Saadiq (RM132,000 each), all for failing to promptly update sanctions databases and screen customers against Malaysia's Domestic List under targeted financial sanctions requirements.
