The Market Wrap.

At a glance: No S&P 500 names report today — a quiet close to a week that peaked Wednesday with Broadcom, HPE and NetApp's AI-infrastructure trio and wrapped Thursday with Ciena and Lululemon, both scored below. The next print doesn't land until Tuesday, when Casey's opens a lighter week that builds toward Oracle and Adobe on Thursday.

Scorecard — reported since we last wrote

Ciena and Lululemon closed out the week's calendar, and both fell despite beating consensus on EPS — a reminder that this week's tape has been punishing beats rather than rewarding them. Ciena's surprise was the larger of the two (+22.1% EPS, +2.1% revenue; prior-quarter EPS wasn't available to gauge the sequential trend there), yet the stock still slid 10.4% in the regular session: guidance pointing to gross margin holding roughly flat rather than extending its recent climb left investors questioning how much further AI-driven demand can carry a stock that had already run up hard into the print, with ongoing supply constraints and a one-time tariff-refund margin benefit adding to the caution. Lululemon beat on EPS (+15.2%, with reported EPS up 21.9% sequentially) but missed on revenue (-1.8%) — exactly the kind of divergence a headline surprise number hides — and the stock cratered 20.9% after hours (AH), by far the sharpest reaction of the week. That drop tracks a full-year guidance cut, with management pointing to softer North American traffic and comparable sales, markdown pressure, and continued category softness in core products including leggings that interim leadership tied in part to negative social-media commentary.

EPS surprise and Rev. surprise = reported figure against the consensus we flagged in that edition; EPS vs prev.Q = reported EPS against the quarter before it, as a percentage difference. Reaction = the report-day session move; for after-close reporters whose next regular session has not traded yet, the post-market move on the report date, marked “AH”.

The week ahead

Next week's calendar is thinner but concentrated on names that matter. Casey's opens Tuesday after the close, consensus $6.88 and a 9.2% implied move, in a convenience-retail category still navigating fuel-margin normalization and a mix shift toward prepared food. Wednesday pairs two very different stories: Kroger, consensus $1.09 and a 5.6% implied move, against a grocery backdrop of persistent trade-down behavior, and Cooper Companies, consensus $1.13 and an 8.2% implied move, where the debate centers on contact-lens and fertility-device volume growth. Wednesday also brings the week's first inflation print, PPI, ahead of Thursday's CPI — both landing right before Oracle and Adobe report and likely to color how the market treats those two prints. Oracle, consensus $1.78 and an 11.2% implied move, carries the AI-infrastructure trade's most closely watched backlog metric into the print: its remaining performance obligations have become a bellwether for the group, and the debate is how much of that record AI-cloud bookings growth converts into cash flow and margin against still-elevated capital spending. Adobe, consensus $6.20 and an 8.2% implied move, reports the same day as a referendum on AI-software monetization — whether Firefly's enterprise and freemium traction can accelerate AI-related revenue enough to offset the growth-rate compression that has kept the stock under pressure this year. Copart, consensus $0.39, rounds out Thursday's slate in salvage-auto auction volumes tied to loss-frequency trends; no options-implied move was available for that name this week.
