RBNZ raises the OCR 25bp to 2.75%, a second straight hike. The Monetary Policy Committee decided by consensus on 2 September to lift the Official Cash Rate from 2.50% to 2.75%. Annual CPI inflation rose to 4.1% in the June quarter, driven largely by fuel prices linked to the Middle East conflict, though the Committee judged core inflation, wage growth and inflation expectations consistent with a return to the 1–3% target band by mid-2027. The Monetary Policy Statement said "future policy will depend on the Committee's judgement of the balance of risks to medium-term inflation," an approach it said "allows the Committee to observe and assess the effects of reduced monetary stimulus" — commentary that points to a pause at the 28 October review before a further move considered in December.
