Kazatomprom's Russian sulphuric-acid suppliers confirm 2026 deliveries stay intact after Moscow's new export-approval rule. Kazatomprom said its Russian acid suppliers have confirmed they can meet existing 2026 contractual volumes and are filing for the export approvals now required under Russian government Resolution No. 1158 (12 September), which replaces an outright restriction with a case-by-case sign-off procedure running through 31 December 2026; talks on 2027 acid supply terms are ongoing, and the company still doesn't expect a material hit to 2026 production guidance. The same announcement disclosed a separate, smaller item: a six-year exclusive licence to explore the Kyzyltu uranium block in Kyzylorda region, with preliminary estimates around 10,000 tU. Acid remains the structural constraint on Kazakh output growth, so the supplier confirmation matters more than the exploration licence. Kazatomprom release · Investegate RNS
Midstream — conversion, enrichment & fuel
Framatome signs the fuel industry's first commercial contract for above-5%-enriched fuel in an operating US reactor. Framatome said it has a commercial contract, under its Advanced Fuel Management programme, to supply a US customer with fuel reloads enriched above the long-standing 5% U-235 industry ceiling, with first delivery in early 2028; the higher enrichment lets the (unnamed) reactor stretch its cycle from 18 to 24 months, cutting outage frequency. The fuel will be made at Framatome's upgraded Richland, Washington plant. It's a first commercial move on the higher-assay LEU-adjacent fuel technology US utilities have been eyeing to squeeze more output per outage. Framatome release · World Nuclear News
Nuclear energy — reactors, industry & demand
Palisades restart timeline slips toward its March 2027 contractual deadline after a tilted fuel assembly halts loading. A fuel assembly tilted inside the reactor vessel on 30 August during Palisades' first US restart-from-decommissioning fuel load, after the handling-machine grapple had already released it; Holtec reported no radiological release and no injuries, but fuel loading stays paused while it designs a retrieval tool and prepares a licence amendment request for the NRC to review the retrieval method. Holtec still expects to meet its March 2027 contractual power-supply deadline, but the incident pushes the restart well past the original 2026 target and has drawn fresh scrutiny of the broader US restart pipeline (Three Mile Island/Crane, Duane Arnold) as a test case for how forgiving regulators and financiers will be of hiccups in bringing 50-year-old plants back online.
