Uranium & Nuclear Energy Corner
Friday, 2026-10-02 · covering the last 24h
Upstream — mining & supply
Nothing dated to this window cleared the bar on the mining and supply side — a check across Cameco, Kazatomprom, Paladin, Boss Energy, Deep Yellow, NexGen, Denison, Energy Fuels, Uranium Energy Corp and the Kazakh, Namibian, Nigerien, Canadian, Australian and US supply-policy trackers turned up only moves already reflected in recent editions.
Midstream — conversion, enrichment & fuel
Equally quiet on conversion, enrichment, HALEU, fabrication and the Russian-import-ban front — nothing fresh beyond the Centrus, Urenco and General Matter developments already noted this week.
Nuclear energy — reactors, industry & demand
US and South Korea sign a $120bn framework for eight new reactors, including six Westinghouse AP1000s on US soil. Washington and Seoul agreed a framework committing roughly $120 billion of South Korean investment toward eight large reactors in the US — six Westinghouse AP1000 units and two Korean APR1400 designs — to be built on US federal sites, as the nuclear slice of the broader $200bn energy component of Korea's $350bn US investment pledge unveiled around President Lee Jae-myung's meeting with President Trump; Westinghouse, KEPCO and KHNP are named as the industrial partners, though site selection, the final reactor mix and financing terms are still to be worked out. Hinkley Point B's site licence passes from EDF to the NDA's Nuclear Restoration Services, closing out the plant's operating era. Per the UK Office for Nuclear Regulation's published timeline, the Hinkley Point B licence transferred from EDF to Nuclear Restoration Services, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority's decommissioning subsidiary, from 1 October 2026 — the final regulatory step after the plant's two advanced gas-cooled reactors were confirmed free of fuel earlier this year, moving the site from EDF's operating fleet into the NDA's decommissioning estate for a multi-decade cleanup. The Chatter
A proper look across X, Substack and fund/analyst notes this window turned up nothing that rose to a distinct, dated argument beyond routine reaction to the Korea reactor-deal headline above — so no items today rather than recycling that coverage as if it were third-party commentary.
