Uranium & Nuclear Energy Corner
Monday, 2026-10-19 · covering the last 72h (weekend included)
Upstream — mining & supply
Nothing cleared the bar on the mining and supply side over the weekend. Checked the major producer and developer newsrooms (Cameco, Kazatomprom, Orano, Paladin, Boss Energy, Deep Yellow, Bannerman, NexGen, Denison, Energy Fuels, Uranium Energy Corp) plus the Kazakhstan/Namibia/Niger/Canada/Australia/US supply-policy trackers — no fresh releases, resource updates or policy moves dated to this window turned up.
Midstream — conversion, enrichment & fuel
Equally quiet: no update to General Matter's Paducah licence review beyond last week's acceptance sessions, and nothing fresh out of ConverDyn, Orano, Cameco Port Hope, Urenco, Centrus, Global Laser Enrichment or the Russian-import-ban/TENEX file this weekend.
Nuclear energy — reactors, industry & demand
Rosatom signs the world's first export deal for floating nuclear power. Rosatom and Indonesia's PT Pembangkit Listrik Nuklir signed a contract on October 16 at Russian Energy Week for two floating 100 MW power blocks (RITM-200M reactors adapted for tropical climates) to supply North Maluku's Halmahera Island; Rosatom keeps ownership and sells the power over a 60-year life, with first supply targeted roughly five years after contract terms take effect. It's a commercial B2B deal funded privately rather than from Indonesia's state budget, and the companies frame it as a template for floating units ahead of eventual onshore large reactors in the region. Onagawa-2 taken offline after a valve leak. Tohoku Electric halted the No. 2 reactor at its Onagawa plant around October 17 after a rising sump level — climbing since July — was traced to roughly 0.2 tonnes/hour leaking from a valve; the utility says the leaked water carried a small amount of radioactive material, has been collected, and that no abnormal radiation readings were found in the surrounding area. Restart is expected in about ten days once parts are inspected and replaced, so the outage runs into this week. Bernama/Kyodo
The Chatter
A genuinely quiet weekend for the commentary circuit: Trader Ferg, The Oregon Group, Uranium Insider's public notes, Sprott's own insights and FNArena's Uranium Week column (whose next edition isn't out until Tuesday) produced nothing freshly argued and dated to this window beyond what's already been covered in prior editions.
