Uranium & Nuclear Energy Corner

Market signal
Spot slips as uranium gets swept into the broader "sell the AI trade." TradeTech's weekly U3O8 spot price indicator eased US$0.25 to US$89.75/lb this week, per FNArena's Uranium Week column, as a pullback in AI-linked shares dragged ASX uranium names — Paladin among the hardest hit — down to fresh 52-week lows alongside neoclouds, contractors and data-centre plays. Upstream — mining & supply
Lotus clears its last export permit; first Kayelekera uranium shipment to leave within the week. Namibia's National Radiation Protection Authority has granted the transport and export authorisation Lotus Resources needed — the final outstanding approval across Malawi, Zambia and Namibia — clearing roughly 145,000 lb of U3O8 in four containers to leave the restarted Malawian mine for Walvis Bay, with shipping booked for November and the product bound for Orano's conversion facility in France. Bannerman and CNNC take final investment decision on Etango, Namibia's next big greenfield mine. The joint venture (55% Bannerman, 45% CNNC Overseas) approved the roughly US$353m development on October 23 — not yet reported in this Corner — moving Etango into full-scale construction toward a targeted 3.5 million lb/year U3O8 output and first production in 2028; about US$64m of early-works spend is already in, with the remainder funded from existing JV cash. Midstream — conversion, enrichment & fuel
Nothing new on conversion, enrichment, HALEU or fuel fabrication in this window, and no fresh movement on the Russian-import-ban/TENEX file.
Nuclear energy — reactors, industry & demand
NRC finalises a faster licensing path for reactor designs already tested by the DOE or the Pentagon. The rule — the first major change to US reactor-licensing regulations under Executive Order 14300 — lets applicants cite evidence from a prior Department of Energy or Department of War authorisation to help show a design meets its safety functions; applicants still carry the full burden of demonstrating NRC compliance and flagging differences from the demonstration unit, and the agency is explicit it's a narrower evidentiary shortcut, not a compliance waiver. NRC
Dairyland and Applied Atomics eye a small reactor at Wisconsin's old La Crosse site; Vermont officials float the same idea for Vermont Yankee. Dairyland Power and Applied Atomics signed a letter of intent to study one or more 100 MWe BWXT mPower units at Dairyland's Genoa site — home to the La Crosse Boiling Water Reactor, shut since 1987 — alongside a possible power purchase agreement; separately, Vermont's public service commissioner told Vernon's selectboard a small modular reactor could suit the nearly-cleared Vermont Yankee site, though he put any build seven to eight years out. Both are early-stage: no permit, vendor contract or financing decision at either site yet. ANS Nuclear Newswire
Indiana, Hoosier Energy and AtkinsRéalis sign an MOU to study up to 6 GW of CANDU reactors. The October 19 agreement — also not yet reported here — is an evaluation, not a construction commitment: it names no site, no offtaker and no budget, and covers the Enhanced CANDU 6 design, for which AtkinsRéalis opened a US licensing conversation with the NRC back in June. The Chatter
FNArena (Uranium Week column): this week's edition argues U3O8 has been swept into the broader "sell the AI trade" unwind — spot slipping and ASX uranium equities, Paladin especially, hitting 52-week lows not because fundamentals changed, but because uranium got caught in the same risk-off rotation hitting neoclouds, contractors and data-centre names. FNArena
Otherwise a quiet pass for the commentary circuit: nothing freshly argued from Trader Ferg, The Oregon Group, Uranium Insider or Sprott's own insights beyond views already credited in recent editions.
