Centrus ships its first Oak Ridge-built centrifuge to the Piketon enrichment plant. Centrus Energy said the first new centrifuge manufactured at its Oak Ridge, Tennessee facility has been completed and shipped to Piketon, Ohio for final assembly, a step in the multi-billion-dollar expansion of US-owned enrichment capacity that is partly funded by a Department of Energy task order. The company has not disclosed how many centrifuges the initial phase will install or an updated Oak Ridge production rate; new centrifuges are expected to come online at Piketon in 2029. Nuclear energy — reactors, industry & demand

NRC floats a dedicated oversight framework for advanced and small reactors. At an October 30 public meeting, NRC staff outlined early concepts for an Advanced Reactor Oversight Process that would sit alongside the Reactor Oversight Process used for today's large light-water fleet, building on the construction-phase framework already applied to new projects and covering non-light-water, SMR and microreactor designs through a tiered inspection matrix. The agency says the work is preliminary and is still taking industry input on how the framework should treat features like prefabrication and remote operation; no rule has been proposed.
