Bank of Canada holds its policy rate at 2.25% for a seventh straight decision. The Governing Council left the target for the overnight rate at 2.25% (Bank Rate 2.50%, deposit rate 2.20%) on 2 September, flagging that new US tariffs, Canadian counter-tariffs and elevated oil prices tied to the Middle East conflict have increased the risk that inflation runs above target rather than settling near 2%. The statement said the Council "will assess the sustainability of the economic rebound and the outlook for inflation, and is prepared to adjust monetary policy as needed." The next decision and a full Monetary Policy Report follow on 28 October. Rate decision
