SEBI

The Securities Appellate Tribunal heard Zee and Punit Goenka's urgent plea against SEBI's market-access bar today, with a ruling on interim relief still awaited as of publication. Zee and its CEO are challenging SEBI's 31 July order over the alleged pledge of Zee's Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad property as loan security for Essel Group entities, which bars Goenka from the securities market for 12 months (₹58 lakh penalty) and restrains Zee for two months (₹30 lakh penalty), with promoter Subhash Chandra separately barred for 12 months and fined ₹60 lakh. Counsel had sought a stay on the restrictions and clearance to proceed with Zee's proposed ₹3,143.5 crore preferential warrant issue to Sunbright Mauritius Investments pending the outcome; we will confirm the tribunal's order once published. Exchanges (NSE/BSE)

NSE launched cash-settled futures and options on the Nifty India FPI 150 Index today, its newest index-derivatives product for foreign portfolio investors. SEBI cleared the contracts — three serial monthly futures and options cycles, expiring the last Tuesday of the month — on the index that tracks the 150 Nifty 500 constituents most accessible to FPIs by six-month average foreign-investible free float; it is aimed at giving overseas investors an on-exchange hedging and diversification tool tied to their own investable universe. Separately, a retail-trader-led "No Trade Day" social-media campaign called for a boycott of trading today in protest at the Closing Auction Session (CAS), which replaced the 30-minute VWAP closing-price mechanism for F&O-eligible stocks on 3 August; organisers say the call-auction method disadvantages traders holding positions into the close. This is an unofficial, trader-organised protest, not an exchange or SEBI action, and NSE/BSE have made no operational changes in response. Business Today
