Investor-group disclosure dropped for FPIs holding only government securities, regardless of route. A circular issued Monday amends the Master Circular for FPIs, DDPs and Eligible Foreign Investors (dated 30 May 2024) so that FPIs investing solely in government securities no longer need to furnish investor-group details. The relaxation, first carved out in September 2025 for the Fully Accessible Route only, is now extended to every route through which an FPI can hold G-secs. SEBI's rationale: with RBI's 5 June 2026 circular having withdrawn the concentration-limit requirement for General Route FPIs in government securities, identifying an "investor group" for concentration purposes is no longer relevant. Effective immediately; depositories, custodians and DDPs have been directed to update their systems. Master Circular for FPIs (as amended)
